Ruch Novaplast

A sustainable solution: EDI 120 in a double pack

RUCH NOVAPLAST, a specialist in technologically advanced molded parts and housing solutions made of particle foam, is relying on sustainable and future-oriented steam generation for a new, outsourced production process. With two electric steam generators from JUMAG, an emission-free, scalable solution was implemented that impresses not only with its high energy efficiency and ease of use, but also with its compact design and easy integration into existing systems. The turnkey solution, including water treatment, steam storage, and PROFINET connection, enables autonomous 72-hour operation with remote access – ideal for modern, decentralized production environments. For RUCH NOVAPLAST, the collaboration with JUMAG was characterized by expert advice, reliable service, and a technical solution that sets standards.

About RUCH NOVAPLAST

"A competent partner for turnkey solutions for easy-to-use power supplies with small footprint and scalability."

RUCH NOVAPLAST is a leading manufacturer of innovative particle foam solutions. With approximately 400 employees at two locations in southern Germany and the Czech Republic, the company develops and produces technologically sophisticated molded parts, complete assemblies, and complex, functionalized housing systems.

Challenge: Efficient and sustainable steam generation

RUCH NOVAPLAST faced the challenge of implementing efficient, emission-free steam generation for an outsourced production site. The focus was on supplying two molding machines with saturated steam at 7.0 bar for processing polypropylene particle foam. The goal was a reliable, all-electric solution that could be operated independently and optimally integrated into the sustainable energy concept using photovoltaics.

The solution: EDI120 in a double pack

The decision was made for a complete turnkey solution from JUMAG, consisting of two EDI 120 electric steam generators, a steam storage system, and water treatment.

The steam generators operate purely electrically, making them ideal for integration into photovoltaic-based energy systems. Their compact and scalable design makes them particularly suitable for sites with limited space.

Thanks to communication capability via OPC-UA, modern monitoring is easily possible. Automatic self-start via timer and unattended operation for up to 72 hours significantly increase the systems’ autonomy.

In addition, the integrated remote access enables efficient remote maintenance, which significantly supports staff. Existing reference systems of a comparable size provided early confidence in the selection and planning process.

Energy Savings and Environmental Benefits

The integration of a photovoltaic system saves approximately 20% of primary energy. By eliminating natural gas and using electricity – potentially even green electricity – the CO₂ footprint of steam generation could be reduced by around 75%. Switching to certified green electricity would enable a near-complete reduction (Scope 1+2).

Positive impact on operations and costs

The JUMAG solution not only enabled the construction of a new production site but also provided numerous operational advantages:

  • Time savings through automated start-up – steam is available on time for the start of the shift
  • Elimination of emissions permits and gas supply issues
  • Cost reduction through reduced personnel requirements and remote maintenance
  • Prospective CO₂ cost reduction compared to gas-based steam generation
