Steam generators can be rented

Mobile Boiler House Goes on a Journey

The final checks have been completed, and the container is ready for transport: The rental steam plant, which is being trucked to Berlin, is approximately seven meters wide.

Open the door and you’ll experience your own blue (space) miracle. Can an entire boiler house fit in such a small space? Yes, it does. Because every square centimeter has been thought through. Three JUMAG DG560 boilers, which together generate 1.68 tons of steam per hour. The complete water treatment system with softening, the JUMAG feedwater tank, the control cabinet for the system control, and the gas and water connections. Despite the compact design, there’s plenty of room for the user, and all connections are easily accessible.

Open the door and you’ll experience your own “blue space miracle” – every cubic centimeter is optimally utilized.

A container is just one of many examples where JUMAG steam generators are used as rental models. From small electric steam generators to steam systems with water treatment to complete steam plants in cubicles and containers, virtually any JUMAG solution can be rented.

Is renting a steam generator worth it?

“It’s worthwhile in many cases,” explains Frank Nägle, Project Manager at JUMAG. “Short-term deployments of a few weeks or months are often necessary. This might be the case for an industrial company to operate a heating system during the cold season. Or for seasonal needs: A container has just been returned from a winery; it is used there every year for filter cleaning. One of our customers in the pharmaceutical industry needs additional steam for a specific production process and can absorb peak loads with the rented steam system. This saves them the cost of a large steam system and their production remains economical and flexible.”

When does a rental steam system make sense?

The temporary use is the deciding factor. Frank Nägle: “For seasonal use, for events, for pilot projects, and temporary needs, e.g., to bridge outages, renting is cheaper than buying. For continuous steam requirements, we naturally recommend buying.”

Examples of Seasonal Rental of a Steam Generator

A typical example of the temporary use of rental steam generators is winemakers who only clean their wine filters once a year. Or gravel producers that steam piles of gravel in winter to prevent them from freezing.

There are also other applications for renting a steam generator, such as bridging heating systems, construction sites, testing, and emergency situations.

Rent or buy: JUMAG calculates the most cost-effective solution

“Good for our customers: Based on the existing steam system, the required steam volume, and the expected timeframe, we can calculate exactly whether buying or renting is more cost-effective. We examine the existing system and its components, such as water softening, condensate return, etc., and then recommend the optimal solution for each case.”

Preparation before renting a steam system

What preparations must be made on-site for the successful operation of a rental steam system, depending on the system type?

If a customer wants to have a fossil fuel-powered system installed, certain preparations are necessary to ensure successful commissioning:

Suitable access must be guaranteed so that unloading and setting up the system on-site can be carried out without any problems.
For electrical systems, it is particularly important that the steam generator is connected to and provided with three-phase current at 400 V and 50 Hz.
Equally important is the reliability of the supply, which must be ensured with 230 V AC 50 Hz.
Equipotential bonding is absolutely necessary.

The following connections and lines must be checked and prepared in advance:

  • Water supply
  • Blow-down line
  • Steam and condensate lines
  • Safety and vent lines
  • Power supply
  • Oil supply
  • Connection of the exhaust stacks

How does the rental of a steam system work?

This is the process from ordering a rental steam system to its return:
Before shipping, the system is fully inspected by Quality Assurance and then delivered to the customer.
The minimum rental period is 14 days and can be extended if necessary.
Billing is per calendar day based on the agreed rental period.
A flat-rate functional and safety check is performed every six months.
When the system is returned to JUMAG, it is inspected by Quality Assurance upon receipt. Any damage will be repaired and invoiced to the customer.
